Christmas Markets in Madrid

December is here, the city is dressed up for the festive season and Christmas can be smelt in every corner. The famous street markets are beginning to set up and invite locals and foreigners alike to visit them.

Take note of the main Christmas markets in Madrid:

1.- Plaza Mayor Christmas Market (from 25 November to 31 December 2022):

This market is one of the most famous in Madrid and is set up like every year in the Plaza Mayor, one of the most iconic spots in the city. In the stalls you will find the classic pine trees, nativity scenes with figures of different sizes and designs, general decoration for the house, handmade gifts, toys, and you will also be attracted by the stalls offering chestnuts, cheese, sausages, delicious turrones, churros and the inevitable chuches (sweets).

2.-Juan Goytisolo square street market (from 20 December to 10 January 2023):

This street market is located next to the Reina Sofía Museum and you can also find the traditional Christmas stalls from the beginning of December.The most entertaining and innovative thing about this market is that in addition to visiting the different stalls, you can skate on the ice rink, transforming this panorama into a unique experience.

3.- Feria Mercado de Artesanía de la Comunidad de Madrid (from the 1st to the 30th of December 2022):

More than 150 artisans from all over Spain take part in this market. It is a unique opportunity to go with the family, visit the different stalls and buy different Christmas gifts, handmade with lots of love. You can find everything from costume jewellery, hats and ceramics to toys, pottery and textiles.

4.- Madrid Río (until 20 January 2023):

Located behind the Casa del Reloj and next to Matadero. In this famous flea market you can enjoy more than 20 stalls with typical Christmas food and handicraft options, a must for all Christmas lovers.

5.- Salvador Dalí Square Christmas Market (until 05 January 2023):

In this famous Christmas market located in the district of Salamanca you can find various stalls with Christmas decorations, innovative toys and gifts that will surprise everyone.
